Version 1 draft. This page describes how StarInterns works today and will be reviewed by a lawyer before a wider launch. Questions: vivek@ruva.so.
Who we are
StarInterns (starinterns.com) is an internship platform where companies post roles with a short task and students apply by doing it. It is in private beta. For anything about your data, email vivek@ruva.so.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address and name. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google. We do not get your Google password or access to your Gmail, Drive or contacts.
- Private beta data: the invite code you used, who invited you, your member number and the invite codes you can share.
- Sign-in data: one-time sign-in codes (stored hashed and expiring after 10 minutes), and for each session the IP address and browser details, used to keep your account secure and to limit abuse.
- Student profile, if you add it: college, graduation year, city, skills and links.
- Applications: the task work you submit, your answers, the status of each application and its history.
- Company accounts: company name, website and work-email domain, and the roles you post.
- Reports you send about a listing, and the emails we send you.
How we use it
- To sign you in and run your account.
- To share your application with the company you applied to. A company sees your task submission, and sees your email address only after it shortlists you.
- To email you sign-in codes and updates about your applications (for example when you are shortlisted, hired or not selected), and to remind companies to respond within 7 days.
- To keep the platform safe, including reviewing reported roles.
We do not sell your data and we do not show ads. Students never pay.
Services we use
- Cloudflare: hosting, and sending our emails (Cloudflare Email Service).
- Neon: our Postgres database.
- Google: only if you choose to sign in with Google.
Automated grading of task submissions is currently switched off. If we turn it on, we will update this page first and say which provider processes submissions.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data while your account exists. Sign-in codes expire after 10 minutes, and sign-up attempt records used for rate limiting are deleted after a day. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your profile, applications and sessions.
Your choices
You can ask us to show, correct, export or delete your data at any time by emailing vivek@ruva.so. We reply within 7 days. If you signed in with Google, you can also remove StarInterns from your Google account settings.
Changes
We will update this page when what we collect changes, and change the date at the top.
